2017 & 2018 have been huge transitional years for me. I moved away from touring with Logic to focus my energy back to filmmaking and story telling. I was filming commercials during tour but I never had the time to focus on films like i've always wanted. The process to do them right is intense, lots of hours breaking down stories and getting to the meat and potatoes of what you're trying to tell. The cinematography is also drastically different. You have to think about how everything cuts together much more than you do with a music video. Narrative pieces are also shaped at every level of production. If there is one thing i've learned in this process is how much you can rework a scene in editing. Obviously the pacing is defined in the edit but changing the entire order of a scene to something that wasn't in the script is powerful. It can hide bad performances, continuity issues, and make a moment more powerful. This of course heavily relies on how a piece is shot and if you have enough coverage for a rework.
I am really bad an updating my website and social media because i've become so jaded with it all but I can't wait to show everything i've been working on. Below are screen grabs from the most recent films i've had the pleasure of photographing.
